Ok, so it's been a while since I've written an article on this blog. I don't know what I'm going to say, but here are some words that might make sense.
I don't consistently keep up with all the music that comes out. Every now and then, however, I'll go on a new music binge over a 3 or 4 day period. I love doing that. I love finding new bands, and artists. I love being turned on by new sounds. Here is some of the most recent material I've been checking out...
Sufjan Stevens, Illinoise
Beautiful, creative, organic...
Yo La Tengo, I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass
--New Jersey indie rock trio that's been around for a long time. High-energy psychedelic guitar trances that break the ten-minute barrier without dragging for a second.
The Clean, Anthology --New Zealand punk trio from the 80's. Lo-Fi, high energy, non-conforming greatness.
--Great instrumental funk with a classic sound.
Mr. Lif, I Heard It Today --Mr. Lif rhymes with such texture and complexity. Soulful and seamless production.
--Another gem from the hip-hop underground.
The Kills, Midnight Boom --Stylish, sexy, and simple, the nouveau-garage clatter of the Kills has magnificently sat on a line between base and brilliant. They've traded in a bluesy, overdriven sleaze that's served many a duo well in recent years, blurring the edges between their tandem vocals, staccato guitars, and vintage drum machines. (Taken from an article at pitchfork.com written by Jason Crock)
--Nostalgic, big, 80's. Earnest, romantic vocals, sparkling synth riffs, and dance rhythms. This record is awesome.
Cat Power, Jukebox
